Hazard Officials Give Long Term Update on Water Issues

As utility crews in Perry County continue to work day-by-day and hour-by-hour to restore water to areas that have been without it for more than a week, officials are giving a longer-term update on system improvements. As WYMT reports, millions of dollars in grants have been awarded to Perry County in the last few years to upgrade the water distribution system. Perry County Judge-Executive Scott Alexander says the projects have environmental studies and other requirements to be met before they can even put out bids. He says they do expect bids to go out this year for a new Buckhorn water plant but even once a bid is awarded it will still take two years to build it.
