A murder charge has been filed against a Hindman man in connection with the shooting death of a man in the Dwarf community on Saturday night. The Perry County Sheriff’s Office says their investigation revealed that Johnathan Proffitt was a passenger on a side-by-side ATV when he allegedly fired shots at Samuel Joseph Smith. A family member drove Smith to Hazard ARH where he died. The Sheriff says after a warrant was issued for Proffitt his brother called and said he was bringing to surrender but when they stopped for gas in Whitesburg, Profitt ran off. The Letcher County Sheriff’s Office helped catch him. The Perry County Sheriff says more charges and more arrests are possible when the case is presented to a Perry County Grand Jury.
