Jury selection has started for the murder trial in the death of a Perry County man during
an incident involving an ATV.
Samuel Smith was shot and killed in March 2024 while on KY-550 near the Knott-Perry line. WYMT reports the suspect, Johnathan Proffitt was a passenger on an ATV when he allegedly shot Smith.
He is charged with one count of murder and one count of tampering with physical evidence.
Officials say a pool of about 1,000 has been called to the Perry County Hall of Justice for jury selection.
