Kentucky Receives Federal Money To Reclaim Abandoned Coal Mines

Kentucky is one of six states set to receive federal money to help reclaim abandoned coal mine sites.

Total funding received by the Commonwealth will be $28.67 million.

West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Alabama and Ohio, will also be receiving money as well as the Hopi Tribe, Crow Tribe, and Navajo Nation.

According to the department the purpose of the program is to create jobs in areas that have been affected by the drop in coal production.
