KY PSC Hosting Public Meeting Thursday in Hazard Over KY Power Proposed Rate Increase

The Kentucky Public Service Commission is hosting a public comment meeting Thursday evening about a proposed Kentucky Power rate increase for next year.

Kentucky Power has asked the PSC for a 14.9% rate increase for residential customers and between 13-15% for commercial customers.

PSC Chair Angie Hatton, who is also our former state representative, tells WYMT the PSC works to keep rates as low as possible but while also making sure the power is reliable.

She says Kentucky Power has really tough territory with mountainous terrain that makes it difficult to maintain the right of way and prevent outages and that kind of infrastructure is expensive.

The public meeting is Thursday at 5 p.m. at the Perry County Courthouse in Hazard.
