Thursday morning it was announced that Coach Misty McAlarnis had stepped down as Basketball Head Coach of the Perry Central Lady Commodores.
Late in the afternoon yesterday, the Perry County County Athletics Facebook page announced the hiring of Letcher County Central Assistant Coach Kelah Eldridge Lowe as the new head coach of Lady Commodore basketball replacing McAlarnis.
Lowe served as JV head coach and head assistant for varsity at Letcher County Central High School.
She also played high school basketball at LCC, receiving the 14th Region Player of the Year and Tournament MVP honors.
She still holds the record as the all time leading scorer for the Cougars.
After high school, she attended the University of Pikeville where she was a four-year starter for the Bears. While there, she helped lead the team to the 2016 NAIA Final Four. In 2017, she was named NAIA All-American.
