During Monday’s regular October meeting, the Letcher Fiscal Court voted to close Locust Drive at Colson, which was flooded in 2022, and to add land along Kentucky May Road to its road system.
This will eliminate a costly railroad crossing maintained by CSX, with the court agreeing to pay $20,000 for the land.
The decision came after a long-standing dispute over the railroad crossing, which had imposed annual fees.
Additionally, the court is now seeking bids to rebuild a community center in Blackey that was damaged by flooding in 2022, raising it to meet FEMA requirements for funding.
