Letcher County Schools Superintendent Denise Yonts Announces Retirement

After 33 years with the school district, Letcher County Schools superintendent Denise Yonts has announced her retirement.

Yonts, who has been a teacher and principal and for the past eight years the superintendent, says she will step down at the end of June.

She tells the Mountain Eagle she doesn’t have any specific plans yet for retirement but wants to spend more time traveling and with family.

She will also be around through September 1 to help with the transition to a new superintendent after the Letcher County Board of Education and Kentucky School Boards Association conduct a search.
