The Letcher County Board of Education is taking school safety to the next level — by creating its own police force.
Superintendent Denise Yonts says the district’s struggled to find enough school resource officers through the sheriff’s office, so they’re forming their own team.
The goal: an officer in every school.
The district’s already looking for a police chief, who’ll work with state and federal agencies to get the force approved.
Yonts says it’s all about keeping kids safe every single day.
