Letcher County Sheriff Mickey Stines wants to get a ballot measure in for the November Election to allow alcohol sales throughout Letcher County. He tells WYMT the tax generated by those who buy alcohol could bring some significant law enforcement funding that would benefit the Sheriff’s Office. He says the taxes from alcohol sales allowed in Whitesburg and Jenkins have helped them increase the number of officers and pay them excellent wages and benefits. A petition drive would need about 1100 signatures to get it on the November ballot.
