Stewart Whitaker

Stewart Whitaker, age 93, of Blackey, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the Greg and Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.

He is survived by his wife: Frances Whitaker; 1 son: Greg Whitaker; 1 daughter: Sandra Wright; 1 brother: Larry Whitaker; 2 sisters: Betty Ann Eldridge and Glenna Caudill; 4 grandchildren: Anthony Stewart Cowden, Charles Wayne Cowden, Elizabeth Denise Brooke Dunn and Katie Diane Owens and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Stewart Whitaker will be held at 12:00 Noon, today, Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Old Regular Baptist Ministers officiating. 

Visitation will be at 10:00am this morning, Thursday, until the time of service today at 12:00 noon at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. 

Burial will follow in the Solomon H. Whitaker Cemetery at Carcassonne.

The Letcher Funeral Home of Whitesburg is in charge of the arrangements.

Freda Faye McCool

Freda Faye McCool, age 91, of Cowan, passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025 at her residence.

She is survived by two sons: William Jay McCool of Cornettsville and Bobby Wayne McCool of Van Lear; two daughters: Sandra Darlene Campbell of Hallie and Delana Sue Caudill of Viper; three sisters: Phyliss Shepherd, Susan Boaden and Billie Sumpter all of Tennessee; three special nephews: Tommy McCool, Bob Sumpter and Leo Scott and two special nieces: Helen Tolliver and Stephanie Gibson.

Funeral services for Freda Faye McCool will be held at 11:00am this morning, Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the Whitesburg Holiness Church at Van with Steve Barrett and Jim Fields officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Bill Sumpter Cemetery at Cowan.

Warren Edward Creech, Sr. (Big Ed)

Warren Edward Creech, Sr. (Big Ed), age 67, of Partridge passed away on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the Harlan A.R.H.

He is survived by his wife, Wendy Creech of Partridge; one son, Eddie Creech of Baxter; one daughter, Ashley Creech of Pikeville, two grandchildren, Trey (Warren Edward Creech III) and Natalie Grace Creech of Baxter; one brother, Greg Creech of Partridge; one sister, Tammy Hogue of Richmond; brother and sister-in law, Dave and Bambi Rivera of Virginia Beach; brother-in-law, Mike Flynn of Cumberland; niece, Whitley Flynn of Hurricane, WV; niece, Kelli Hogue of San Francisco; nephew, Steven Hogue of Lexington; niece, Kareen Rivera of Durham, NC; and niece, Madison Creech of Partridge.

Visitation will be from 6:00-9:00pm this evening, Thursday, September 18, 2025 at the Poor Fork Old Regular Baptist Church in Cumberland. 

Funeral Services for Warren Edward Creech, Sr. (Big Ed) will be held at 1:00pm on Friday September 19, 2025 at the Poor Fork Old Regular Baptist Church in Cumberland.

Burial will follow on the Creech family property located in Colliers Creek.

The family would like to request in lieu of flowers, that a donation be made to the Poor Fork Old Regular Baptist Church.

The Tri-City Funeral Home at Benham is in charge of the arrangements.

Edward F. Ritchie

Edward F. Ritchie, age 80, of Redfox, passed away on Tuesday September 16, 2025, at his residence. 

Edward is survived by his Wife: Judith Thomas Ritchie; One Son: Robert Ritchie; Three Daughters: Maribeth Toler, Melissa Gallagher and Christina Watson; One Brother : Raymond Ritchie; Two Sisters: Patty Perry and Ruby Slone; 14 Grandchildren, 11 Great-Grandchildren and 1 on the way.

Visitation will be from 6:00-10:00pm Friday September 19, 2025, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home Chapel in Hindman with a service starting at 7:00pm with Claude Allen officiating.

Funeral Services for Edward F. Ritchie will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday September 20, 2025, at the Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home Chapel with Chuck Hall officiating. 

Burial will follow at the Ritchie Cemetery at Redfox.

The Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home, Hindman Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Glenna Smith

Glenna Smith, age 89, of Jeremiah, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at the Greg Noreen Wells Hospice Care Center in Hazard.

She is survived by two daughters: Sheree Combs of Paris, Kentucky and Robin Blair of Jeremiah; her daughter-in-law: Glenna Harris of Whitesburg; a sister: Beatrice Crawford of Whitesburg; four grandchildren; Cory Harris, Mac Blair, Katie Blair, and Leah Craft and five great- grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service for Glenna Smith will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at the Pine Mountain Grill.
