David Polis

David Polis, age 77, of Neon, passed away on Saturday July 11, 2026 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard. 

Arrangements for David Polis are incomplete at this time and will be announced later by the Everidge Funeral Home of Whitesburg.  


Stephanie Rae Brashears

Stephanie Rae Brashears, age 64 of Cowan, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Vicco.

She is survived by 3 step sons: Cecil Aberum Wright of Newport, Tennessee and Patrick Jeremy Wright of Newport, Tennessee and Robbie Sergent of Powell County 1 brother: Samuel Ray Brashears; several nieces and nephews along with a host of grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 11:00am Saturday, July 18, 2026 at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel. 

A Memorial service for Stephanie Rae Brashears will follow at 12:00 noon on Saturday at the Letcher Funeral Home Chapel with Johnnie Banks officiating.

The Letcher Funeral Home of Whitesburg is in charge of the arrangements. 


Johnnie Smith

Johnnie Smith, 80, of Flint, Michigan, formerly of Blackey, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, in Flint, Michigan.

He is survived by his wife: Frances Smith; one daughter: Stella Cook; 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and three brothers: Fred Dixon, Larry Dixon and Greg Dixon.

Funeral services for Johnnie Smith will be held at 12 noon today, Tuesday, July 14, 2026 at the Mount Olivet Church in Blackey.

Burial will follow in the Pearl Dixon Cemetery at Blackey.

Deloris Ann Puckett

Deloris Ann Puckett, age 83, formerly of Jenkins, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, GA. 

She is survived by 2 sons: Butch Puckett of Ray City and Edward “Mark” Puckett of Nashville; 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. 

A graveside service for Deloris Ann Puckett will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in the Green Acres cemetery in Whitesburg.

The Hall & Jones Funeral Home, Jenkins Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. 


Silas Ray Elbert “Booger” Collins

Silas Ray Elbert “Booger” Collins, age 44, of Cornettsville, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the Hazard ARH.

Two Nieces – Tylan Griffie and Greta Fields

and Great Nephew – Collin Griffie

Funeral services for Silas Ray Elbert “Booger” Collins will be follow at 1:00pm Wednesday  at the Hindman Funeral Services Chapel with Teddy Bailey officiating. 

Burial will follow at Sexton Cemetery at Isom.

Mark Sconce

Mark Sconce, age 58, of Lynch passed away Sunday, July 12, 2026.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years: Rhonda Shepherd Sconce; one daughter: Kaitlin Sconce; one son: Jaxson Sconce and his mother: Patsy Blair Sconce.

Visitation will be after 11:00am this morning, Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the Tri City Funeral Home at Benham. 

Funeral services for Mark Sconce will follow at 1:00pm today, Tuesday, at Tri City Funeral Home with Mike and Barbara Blair officiating. 

Burial will follow at the DL Creech Cemetery.

Cassie Shepherd

Cassie Shepherd, age 83, of Delphia, passed Friday, July 10, 2026, at her residence. 

She is survived by three daughters: Estelle Halcomb, Nancy Quinn & Judy Shepherd all of Delphia; One Brother: Garland Smith of Delphia; Two Grandchildren and Four Great-Grandchildren. 

Visitation will be after 5:00pm this evening, Tuesday July 14, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Big Leatherwood.

Funeral services for Cassie Shepherd will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Big Leatherwood with Eddie Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in the Adams Cemetery at Delphia.
