Magoffin County Advances to Quarterfinals of Sweet 16 With Win Over Perry Central

The 2024 KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 got underway on Wednesday at Rupp Arena in Lexington.  

It was a battle of the mountains in the opening game of the state tournament as 14th Region winner Perry County Central took on 15th Region winner Magoffin County.  

Magoffin beat Perry Central, 54-47, advancing them to the boys’ Sweet 16 Quarterfinals for the first time in school history.

Perry County Central ends the season at 22-14

Magoffin County will take on Great Crossing HS at 11:00am Friday morning in the quarterfinals.  

Great Crossing beat Spencer County Wednesday 62-48. 

Also Wednesday Mr. basketball and UK signee Travis Perry and his Lyon County team came from behind to edge Ashland Blazer 45-43 and also Wednesday Adair County beat Marshall County 72-55.  

There will be 4 more opening round games today at the boys Sweet 16 including 13th Region winner, the Harlan County Black Bears taking on Warren Central out of region 4 at 11:00am morning.

Also today at 1:30pm Butler County faces Evangel Christian, at 6:00pm this evening Pulaski County takes on Louisville Trinity and Newport takes on Campbell County at 8:30pm tonight.
