A new law starts today requiring you to register your ATV or UTV if you plan to drive it
on public roads.
Letcher County Sheriff Billy Jones says in a post on social media that he is for the law due to its safety intentions, but he is not a fan of the fact that there is a fee to register the vehicles.
He says as long as you are using common sense and obeying traffic laws, his deputies will have no reason to check your paperwork.
But if they see you driving dangerously or suspect you’ve been drinking, they will act.
The new law only applies to public roads, not riding on private property or trails.
