Norton Police Chief James Lane has been honored by Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares with the Quiet Hero Award given to those who exemplify the sacrifices made by law enforcement.
Miyares made the presentation at the 4th Annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Breakfast.
It stemmed from an incident in 2021 in which Chief Lane was ambushed by James Buckland who walked up to Lane’s police cruiser and opened fire at near-point-blank range hitting him five times.
Miyares also thanked then-Sergeant and now-Sheriff Jason McConnell who took down Buckland and saved Chief Lane’s life.
