Hazard’s Memorial Gymnasium may be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Hazard community planner Logan Smith tells the Hazard Herald he has been working on the steps to achieve the listing for the high school basketball venue that was built in 1950 with money left from the community’s WWII funds and contains plaques honoring local men who died in the war. Smith says the State Historic Board has approved Memorial Gym for induction and he is confident it will get the National nod.
