Perry County Sheriff Joe Engle has announced that he will not be running for re-election and will retire after his term is over in December of 2026.
In a statement to WYMT, the twice-elected Engle says he is basing his decision on the model of George Washington, who said he thought two terms was the proper amount of time to hold a position of power.
Engle began his career in 1997 as a volunteer deputy.
