Pike and Floyd are two of the 34 counties in Kentucky that are part of a rise in whooping
cough this year.
Kentucky Health News cites state Department for Public Health records showing over the last month, cases of whooping cough in Kentucky went up nearly 82% with 138 cases as of yesterday for 2024.
There were 84 in all of 2023 and just 35 in 2022.
Whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory illness spread by coughing and sneezing.
Officials say the best way to prevent it is to get vaccinated against it.
