Pike County has named the next Superintendent of Schools. The Pike County Board of Education has chosen Assistant Superintendent Freddie Bowling to fill the shoes of current Superintendent Dr. Reed Adkins when he retires this summer. The Appalachian News Express reports Bowling’s nomination for the job was unanimously ratified by the board. He will take over on July 1. Adkins, who has been superintendent since 2015, announced when his contract was renewed a few years ago this would be his final year.
