Pike County Volunteer Fire Chief Indicted on Theft Charges

A federal indictment has been handed down against a Pike County volunteer fire chief on allegations of stealing money intended for the department. The Appalachian News Express cites a US Attorney’s office notice that in 2022 the Blackberry Fire Department received $50,000 in federal Covid-19 recovery money to buy fire and safety equipment from a company called Rural Public Safety Equipment which was owned by Blackberry Fire Chief Christopher Chapman. The indictment alleges Chapman pocketed the money and never provided the gear.
