Pikeville Attorney Named in Black Lung Mask Lawsuit

A Pikeville attorney who has filed multiple lawsuits against the 3M Company, alleging faulty masks used by some coal miners led to black lung disease, is being sued by 3M
for allegedly filing false and frivolous lawsuits.

Mountain Top News reports Glenn Martin Hammond is one of three attorneys from across the country named in a conspiracy lawsuit filed last week in U.S. District Court in Pikeville.

3M claims the three attorneys worked together to cheat 3M and exploit coal miners by coaching miners to lie about using respirators manufactured by 3M which were then blamed for failing.

In a statement Hammond denies the allegations, claiming 3M and their attorneys have
suppressed documents that show their knowledge of faults with the masks.

There’s no word yet on what the lawsuit could mean for any of the pending black lung cases.
