More housing could be coming to Pikeville if the City Commission approves a potential
zoning change.
The City has reportedly applied to the Joint Planning Commission, which includes Pike County, Elkhorn City and Pikeville, to change the city zoning to require less parking per housing unit which officials say has limited the interest from developers for affordable housing.
Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter tells the Appalachian News Express the change is about allowing developers and property owners to use downtown space more effectively.
A public hearing could be held next month on the issue with the Pikeville City Commission then possibly voting on it in July.
