A Pikeville man has been sentenced to 33 years in prison for dealing fentanyl.
The US Attorney’s Office says Samuel C. Atkins was sentenced Friday by a federal judge for
possession with the intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl, distribution of
fluorofentanyl, and possession of firearms by a convicted felon.
Atkins was arrested in 2023 by U.S. Marshals on several warrants for violating probation from prior drug convictions.
Officials say when Aktins was in jail awaiting trial, four other inmates suffered nonlethal overdoses, and a search of Atkins’ jail cell turned up fentanyl.
