Pikeville Medical Center Doctors Implant World’s Smallest Defibrillator Lead

A surgical team from Pikeville Medical Center has become the first in the world to implant the world’s smallest defibrillator lead.

The team led by Dr. Joseph Souza who is a cardiac electrophysiologist at PMC, implanted the Medtronic OmniaSecure which is used to treat dangerous heart rhythm disorders.

The lead is less than a millimeter and a half in diameter, currently the smallest and thinnest implantable lead available.
