Pikeville Police and Louisa EM Receive Federal Funding for New Facilities

Pikeville police are getting nearly $4 million towards a new police station and the Louisa
emergency services are getting $3 million for a new home.

Congressman Hal Rogers announced the funding as part of the next federal budget, approved when the federal government shutdown ended.

Pikeville Mayor Jimmy Carter tells WYMT the current station is more than 30 years old and while it was originally designed for 12 officers they now have 25.

Louisa Mayor Harold Slone says their new facility will bring together the Louisa Fire Department, Police Department, and Communications Center under one
roof with room to grow to add EMS services down the line.

Officials say both construction projects will reportedly take about two years to get built.
