Pikeville Police Changes Grooming Policy

If you notice some Pikeville police officers looking a little different, it’s because the
department has changed its Grooming and Appearance Policy somewhat.

Pikeville cops are now allowed to have visible tattoos and some facial hair but under some clear guidelines.

The Appalachian News Express reports officers can have full beards, goatees and mustaches.

But the mustaches can’t go past the corners of the mouth by more than half an inch, and facial hair can’t be longer than half an inch or get “too messy”.

And facial hair has to be intentional and start on their days off, not just because they didn’t feel like shaving.

As for tattoos, nothing on the head or neck.

The police chief tells the paper they are doing to boost recruitment as well as for morale.
