State Senator Phillip Wheeler of Pikeville has been honored with a Champion of Recovery Award from the Kentucky Association of Independent Recovery Organizations and the Recovery Consortium of Kentucky for his work to improve treatment geared toward long-term results.
The Appalachian News Express reports Wheeler was honored as the lead sponsor of Senate Bill 71 which added guidelines for addiction treatment centers to provide transportation services for those exiting recovery programs and for the alternative sentencing worker program
