Pikeville Medical Center is launching an Internal Medicine residency program to bring on the next generation of physicians which they say will help strengthen rural healthcare across the community.
In a statement PMC says the University of Kentucky will serve as the Sponsoring Institution, and PMC will serve as the clinical site for the program with residents doing monthly rotations covering critical areas such as inpatient care, emergency services, intensive care and specialized outpatient clinics.
They say the program is a proactive step in addressing the nationwide shortage of rural physicians.
