Wheels have started turning to rebuild the Blackey Community Center which was heavily damaged in the July 2022 flood.
The Mountain Eagle reports the Letcher Fiscal Court is expected to open bids next month to rebuild the Center, which first will have to have its foundation raised several feet to get it above flood level at the south bank of the North Fork of the Kentucky River.
FEMA has already pledged $600,000 toward the project and has approved the designs.
There is no word yet on how long it will take to get the actual work done once the bids come in and a contractor is chosen.
