Paul Goldschmidt’s double in the eighth inning scored Michael Siani with the tiebreaking run, and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Cincinnati Reds 2-1 on Wednesday night.
The Reds are now 71-76, 13 games behind the Brewers in the NL Central and 9.5 games back in the NL Wild Card race with 15 games to go in the season.
The Reds and Cardinals are tied 1-1 and will have the series wrap up and rubber match this afternoon at 1:15pm this afternoon before the Reds head to Minnesota to play the Twins in a 3 game weekend series.
