Spencer Steer and pinch-hitter Gavin Lux had run-scoring singles in the 11th inning and Cincinnati rallied from a three-run deficit for a 5-4 walk off victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.
Chase Burns made an impressive major league debut for the Reds.
Burns, the second overall pick in last July’s amateur draft, became the first starting pitcher in the expansion era to strike out the first five batters he faced in his debut. The 22-year old right-hander allowed three runs and six hits in five innings and struck out eight.
The Reds are winners of 3 in row with a record of 42-38, 4.5 games back of the Cubs in the NL Central and 2 games back in the wild card race.
The Reds will go for the series sweep tonight against the Yankees with game time at 7:10pm.
The Reds are off Thursday before facing the San Diego Padres in a 3 game weekend series starting Friday at GABP.
