Sentencing Expected Thursday for Former Pike County Attorney

With sentencing scheduled for Thursday for a former Pike County Assistant County Attorney who pleaded guilty to evidence tampering, both sides have presented their case for the sentence.

Donald Deskins was initially indicted for murder and evidence tampering in the 2021 death of his wife Judith.

After his trial ended in a hung jury, he agreed to an Alford plea, agreeing there is enough evidence to be convicted of the evidence tampering but without admitting guilt.

In exchange for that plea, prosecutors dropped the murder charge.

His attorneys say since he has been in home confinement since his arrest they feel he should get probation.

The prosecutor says since Deskins was a public official when the crime occurred, they want him to serve the five-year sentence he agreed to when he made the plea deal.
