Some major road improvements for Letcher County have been given money by the state legislature but it could be a while before we see them actually happen. The Biennial Highway Construction Plan approved in the just-finished session of the Kentucky General Assembly includes money to fix several sections of US 119. The Mountain Eagle reports Letcher County Judge/Executive Terry Adams told the Fiscal Court last week some of the beginning work could start this summer but most will be done in 2025. They include a section of US 119 at Payne Gap, three sections between Whitesburg and Jenkins, and two sections between Whitesburg and Eolia.
