Smilefaith Appalachia, a Florida-based missionary organization, is redeveloping an abandoned shopping center in downtown Jenkins into businesses, an event space, and tourist cabins.
The charity, which already operates a community center and free dental clinic in the area, has begun renovating the site and nearly completed a business incubator.
The project includes plans for RV campsites, cabin rentals, restaurants, and more.
Despite prior contamination concerns, the land has been cleared for development, and the organization is now seeking engineers to assist in further construction efforts.
