Superintendent Hopeful for Resolution in Pay Dispute with Classified Employees

Letcher County’s Schools Superintendent says she is hopeful that a resolution can be
reached with school bus drivers over a pay dispute before school starts without
disruption to student transportation.

As we reported last week, some school bus drivers have been talking about a potential strike if the School Board does not come through with a 5% raise for this coming year that they discussed last year.

But District officials have said with enrollment down, there may not be enough money.

In a statement to WYMT, Superintendent Denise Yonts says they respect the rights of employees to advocate for better wages and are hopeful for a fair outcome for everyone.
