Temporary Road Closure Scheduled on KY 160 in Letcher County near Roxana for Drilled Steel Installation

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (July 29, 2025) The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises motorists of an upcoming road closure on KY 160 in Letcher County for essential embankment stabilization work.

Contractor Blue Rock Inc. will be installing drilled steel at mile point 16.033, located 0.6 miles north of KY 2036 (Mill Branch/Pratts Branch) and 1.8 miles south of KY 588.

This will be between Roxana and the Enterprise Coal Company Loadout on KY 160.

Work is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 31, and continue through Friday, August 1, weather permitting.

Work hours are 8:00 a.m. to approximately 6:00 p.m. each day. Due to the size of the equipment and the nature of the drilling operation, both lanes of KY 160 will be blocked during active work hours. Traffic signals will remain on red throughout the operation to prevent vehicles from entering the work zone.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes to avoid delays:

  • KY 931 is recommended for those traveling through the southern part of the county.
  • KY 2036 may be used for local access near the project area.

KYTC District 12 appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as we work to ensure the long-term safety and stability of this roadway.
