Two Infants Have Died in Kentucky from Whooping Cough

State Public Health officials say two infants have died from whooping cough, also
known as pertussis, in the last six months.

WYMT reports that in both cases neither the infants nor their mothers had received the recommended immunizations against pertussis during pregnancy or infancy.

These are the first pertussis-related deaths in Kentucky since 2018 but so far 247 cases of whooping cough have been reported in the state this year.

They say last year there were 543 Kentucky cases, the most since 2012.
