The Letcher Volunteer Fire Department and Letcher EMS have ceased all operations with Neon Fire and Rescue now covering EMS calls and nearby fire departments running in as needed for fires.
The Mountain Eagle reports the department is having money trouble so they’ve shut it down to sort it out.
One official tells the paper the department is currently uninsured and cannot run until they are.
The County Attorney is said to be looking into reports that ambulance service employees were not being paid, and Kentucky State Police are reportedly also investigating the ambulance service.
