The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Kentucky says in 2024 they collected more than $20 million for crime victims and taxpayers, and also obtained civil settlements totaling more than $20 million.
Officials say their enforcement includes pursuing restitution for victims of crime, recovering illegally obtained money, and protecting taxpayers from fraud, waste, and abuse.
While criminal restitution is paid directly to victims, criminal fines are paid to the Department of Justice’s Crime Victims Fund, which distributes the money to victim compensation and assistance programs.
