We want to send a big congratulations out to a very impressive young athlete from right here in our community!
Bryson Frazier, an 8th grader at Whitesburg Middle School, has just been crowned the 185-pound Middle School State Wrestling Champion!
Bryson wrestles with the Warhawks Wrestling Club out of Prestonsburg, and what a season he’s had. He finished the year with an outstanding 26-2 record and also captured the Region 6 Championship along the way.
His road to the state title wasn’t easy. In a tough 30-man bracket, Bryson had to face one of his two regular-season losses from Oldham County in the semifinals — and he turned the tables with a hard-fought 5-4 victory to advance to the finals.
Then in the championship match, Bryson faced a tough opponent from Paducah Tilghman — his other loss from earlier in the season — and left no doubt this time, pinning him in the first period to claim the state title in dominant fashion.
To top it off, his Warhawks team brought home a third-place finish overall.
Congratulations to Bryson Frazier on an incredible season and a well-earned state championship! We’re proud of you!
