Whitesburg City Council to Choose Architect for Design Creation of Old Daniel Boone Hotel

Whitesburg is taking another step forward refurbishing the Daniel Boone Hotel.

The City Council is choosing an architect from among three proposals to design the next phase.

The Mountain Eagle reports work started again thanks to a $3 million grant that Letcher
County got last year on behalf of the city.

The next phase includes renovating the first floor for retail space and maybe some lodging.

The largest building in downtown Whitesburg, the Daniel Boone Hotel opened in July 1920.

It closed in the 1970s and went through several different uses but has been vacant since 2009.
