A 103-year-old Pikeville business is closing. Shurtleff’s Laundry and Cleaners was opened in 1921 by Ernest Shurtleff. He died in a plane crash in 1951 but it stayed in the family. The family tells WYMT there just isn’t the demand there one was since most people have machines and there is more wash-and-wear clothing that doesn’t need much special care. The family say a new laundry service will be renting their former pick-up building on Hambley, and they ask that the community support that business, Weems Laundry.
